Most of the ecommerce sellers I work with don’t realize they have a cash problem until it’s already a crisis.
When your cash runway is dangerously short, the first move is always the same: stop the bleeding before you look for more cash.
That means auditing every expense immediately. Cancel anything that isn’t directly tied to generating revenue or fulfilling orders. Subscriptions, tools, services — they can wait.
Next, contact your vendors. Most suppliers would rather work out a payment plan than lose a customer. You’d be surprised how often a simple phone call buys you 30–60 days of breathing room.
Then look at your receivables. If you have outstanding payments owed to you, collect aggressively. If you’re selling on Amazon or another marketplace, check your disbursement schedule and see if there’s anything you can accelerate.
Finally, resist the urge to run a sale to generate quick cash. Discounting can actually make things worse by thinning your margins right when you need them most.
The goal in a cash crisis is to buy time — not to solve everything at once. Stabilize first, then build a real plan.
