A few weeks ago, my husband Dave was sick with a bout of Vertigo. Your mind seems fine until you sit up or stand up and the whole world starts spinning. He was completely incapacitated for several days.
It made me think about our business. If I were suddenly out of commission, what would happen? Who knows where things are? Who can make decisions? Who knows the passwords, the processes, the client relationships? If you’re the linchpin — the one person holding everything together — that’s a business risk. Build redundancy. Document everything. Your business should be able to survive without you for at least a few weeks. Start building that capacity now.
