A couple months ago, we drove from our place in the North Carolina mountains back to our home in the Ozark mountains of Arkansas. It is a long haul — 14.5 hours of driving — because we bring the dogs and make it a road trip.

That drive, with its long stretches of highway and nothing to do but think, gave me some of the clearest business thinking I’ve had all year. Distance from the day-to-day creates perspective. Sometimes the reset you need isn’t a new strategy or a new tool — it’s a change of scenery long enough for your brain to stop reacting and start seeing. Whatever form that takes for you, build it in regularly. The clarity is worth it.
