Revenue and Responsibilities

Revenue Driving Responsibilities

October 17, 20252 min read

We are creating some new roles in Your Profit Team to ensure that we serve our clients well as we grow.

As we developed the job descriptions, we asked our advisors from the All In Company, Danielle Mulvey and Heenle Turner, to review them.

They asked a very important question, “Of all the bullet points listed under your key responsibilities, what are the 3 to 5keyrevenue driving responsibilities and what are the success metrics for them?”

What a powerful reframe!

Now I want to do that exercise for every position at bookskeep too.

We have had that framework for years for our bookkeeping positions.

Why did we stop there?

This new lens brings so much clarity.

As you consider adding new positions to your team, simply ask yourself, “What are the 3 to 5 revenue driving responsibilities and what are the success metrics?”

Maybe you have team members that don’t seem to be performing up to your expectations.

Perhaps they aren’t clear about their top 3 to 5 key revenue driving responsibilities and how you measure success.

Here are a few examples from our bookkeeping job description to give you an idea what this looks like.

Key Revenue Driving Responsibilities and Success Metrics

#1Record revenue from sales channels and review and categorize clients' expenses to proper accounts twice a week.

Success Metric: Expenses will be recorded with 95% accuracy each week

#2Reconcile and close clients' books by the 10th of each month, including creating financial statements, processing payroll, reconciliations, recording inventory balances, etc.

Success Metric:Complete 85% of the time with review of 30 minutes or less

Success Metric: Keep billable hours within 105% of budget for each client

#3Meet with assigned clients using web conferencing software to review their books and maintain positive relations.

Success Metric: Schedule and attend meetings with 95% of assigned clients at least quarterly

It’s like I’ve been given a new pair of glasses, and I can see clearly that every role has to be directly connected to revenue driving responsibilities, and what success looks like to us must be spelled out.

I can’t wait to start working on this.

I know it will help you and your team, too.
