Possibility Leads to Greatness

June 13, 20252 min read

Yesterday, I had the privilege of coaching some ecommerce partners that have made significant progress in their business.

Many months ago, they started down a path of major changes and when we talked for the first time 3 weeks ago, the overwhelm and weight of these projects was heavy.

They were in the final stages and about to achieve their dream of a new warehouse and office, but they had been carrying a load for a long time.

They joined our Cash Accelerator Program to better understand the impact of this building on their cash flow.

And as we got to the clarity phase, it perfectly coincided with the overwhelm.

We dug in and made some plans to help them get over the finish line and help them see possibility that was being overlooked by being in stress mode.

Yesterday on the call, they were all smiles in their new space.

And we talked about how it all unfolded.

What is fascinating to me is that not all of our stepping stones to get them over the line panned out.

That did not deter them.

They figured out different and better options where necessary, because they opened their view up to possibility.

Because they had some honest conversations about the stress they were under, and because they care about each other, the business, and the team, they found the best path forward.

This is what impresses me so much about small business owners.

They find a way. They solve problems.

In Chapter 3 of Why Greatness Cannot Be Planned the authors tell a fascinating story about an AI tool they created to “breed” art.

It's interesting how the user picks images starting with just blobs and other users can take over the process and ultimately these selections form an image over time.

Through this process, the authors learned that in no case was an image discovered if the user was trying to create that certain image.

This process over time led them to the conclusion that stepping stones almost never resemble the final result.

A distinct objective cannot guide you to itself.

They called this the "false compass" and I look forward to the next chapter where we dig into this more.

My clients shared that they were rereading Jim Collins' book Good to Great, and I chuckled inside because I'm learning Why Greatness Cannot Be Planned.

But, I do believe there is room for both in the entrepreneur's toolbox.

If you would like to explore your direction and find your stepping stones, start with the Ecommerce Business Performance Assessment and use the free guide to lay out those steps.

Then, let's chat about the possibilities that are now ahead.
