My Catalysts
A couple of days ago, I wrote about catalysts for growth.
Today I want to explore how people can step in as catalysts for our growth.
In my early career, one man, the president of the business I worked for, promoted me to a higher and more demanding roles as needs opened up in the firm.
He believed in me and he gave me opportunities to shine.
When he left, a new president came in to serve.
He also gave me opportunities.
He encouraged me to finish my college degree and as long as I was attending university part-time, I was rewarded with promotions.
Ultimately I was made Vice President and served in a leadership role in the firm.
I was given responsibility to network with our board, with government agencies, and to lead major projects within the company.
I loved it and it was a hard job to leave.
Having these bosses believe in me when I didn't really understand how I could fulfill these roles gave me the courage to try.
Then as I learned and had some success I gained the confidence to keep growing.
When I started my own business, another man gave me a vision for my future, Mike Michalowicz.
He could see that I could grow a firm and become the Profit First expert for ecommerce.
I laughed at this thought and humored him during our coaching calls.
Yet, a tiny seed was planted and the world of possibility opened up.
I'm so grateful for these men who helped me see beyond my limited experience to the potential of what could be possible.
At a recent workshop, a speaker talked about how people in our lives often open our eyes to our possibility.
I questioned him on this premise because I believe we are truly whole and have everything we need inside ourselves.
Yet my own experience shows that sometimes we need a catalyst.
Maybe it's because our patterned way of thinking needs a jolt, needs something or someone to hold up a mirror without the automatic filters we apply to ourselves.
This is one of the things I love about working with the women's ecommerce brand owners in our Web Circle.
We help each other see our challenges through a different lens.
We boost and encourage so those first shaky steps aren't taken alone.
We act as catalysts for each other to highlight the possibility.
If this sounds interesting to you, hit reply and let's talk about what your possibilities might be.
