My Business Quest
Recently, I heard a talk by the late Sir Ken Robinson.
He has one of the best TED talks and is known for his groundbreaking work in education and creativity.
His daughter is leading an effort for his foundation to release many of the archives for his talks.
The one that I happened upon was about how education and finding your passions are a quest.
“A quest is a journey you take whose outcome is not certain…You may find yourselfdiscoveringthings along the way you had not anticipated..“
If you have been following along with me, I recently took a journey to New Mexico.
I of course, was bound for the sights there, but also to visit my state number 50.
While my journey to New Mexico wasn’t planned to be a quest, it certainly became one.

I knew I resonated with Georgia O’Keeffe art, but I didn’t expect to tap into this in her life and her strong character.
Reflecting upon this difference between the journey and a quest, I believe entrepreneurship is definitely a quest.
I also think it would be good for our mindset to see ourselves as on a business quest.
I have always used the phrase “business journey”, but now that seems inadequate.
We likely have a destination in mind: a certain revenue goal, profitability metric, time freedom, flexible lifestyle, etc.
Yet every entrepreneur I know ended up discovering some things along their journey, they had not expected.
They can often be good surprises, like me learning that Georgia O’Keeffe was an avid gardener, or they may require you to dig deep and face the personal growth challenges you’d rather keep hidden.
In any case using the word, “quest” opens up the possibility to those unexpected twists and turns and keeps our mindset flexible.
One thing I know for sure is we must be flexible in today’s business environment.
