Karma- When You Can Connect The Dots

April 04, 20252 min read

Years ago, we had a team member that was dealing with so much at home due to her husband's injuries.

She was a good accountant, but serving multiple clients creates pressure at month end to get a lot done in a short time.

With her stress already high at home, she wasn't able to manage it all.

We were sad to see her go as she was a lovely person and good at her job.

I heard from her a couple weeks ago that she had read a social media post where I was grateful for a colleague's grace.

She reached out to thank me and Dave for the compassion we gave her while her husband faced multiple surgeries.

It was so lovely to hear that we had been a bright spot during a tough time.

Honestly, it was a surprise to get this note as I didn't see our actions as extraordinary.

It's just how you treat people that are going through a tough time.

I was grateful to learn her memories of her time at bookskeep were fond.

When a team member leaves for whatever reason, it's always a bit sad for me.

All the hopes and dreams we both had were just uprooted and a rebuilding has to occur on both sides.

Being clear on your values and living them are extremely important because they help to create alignment between your vision and your daily actions.

For you and your team, how you care for your employees is how they will care for you and your clients.

It is how you show up in the world, and you better believe they are connected.

At the end of the sweet note from my former team member, she asked for a meeting because her brother has an ecommerce business.

She wants to gather more details of our services so she can make a referral to him.

Not often, but sometimes, we get to see how our past actions create a full circle moment.

Her note is the perfect example. Be kind to your people.
