It's What You Know For Sure

I had to part ways with my marketing guy.

We worked together for over a year and it was an experiment from which I learned a lot.

At first, I wanted him to come in and bring his systematic approach to our team.

I liked his framework and how it logically connected the dots; from ideal client profile and campaigns, to content creation and website management.

It seemed logical and imposed a structure to the efforts we were making but not in a fully coordinated way.

I think the first sign of trouble was that my team didn't embrace him.

He seemed to come in with lots of new ideas and work for them, and they didn't think he appreciated that their regular work still had to get done, too.

I wanted them - the CMO guy and my team - to take care of things.

I wanted to set an overall direction and let them get to work.

Unfortunately, they were not ready to hold hands, and we likely got subpar performance from both sides.

My objective to “Clockwork” my business so it can run with minimal involvement from me, told me I had to hand marketing off.

So that's what I tried to do.

Here's what I learned:

Your business is an extension of you, and it must align with you; your why.

Your unique quirks are what appeals to your audience and no one can express that like you can.

In my Women's Ecommerce Brands (WEB) Circle, we recently did a lifeline of high and low points in our lives.

These are the moments that shape us, and in looking back over this lifeline we can start to see who we are and why we are becoming more unique every day.

The ladies in my group thought about their unique stories and how those stories could shine through their marketing.

I am doing the same. What I write about here is who I am - every day.

It's what's important to me and why I built my business in the first place.

My failed experiment to hand off marketing without developing and setting expectations fully was because I didn't understand how tightly the brand or business is tied to the vision of the owner.

The vision is not ready to be handed off until it's clear.

I attempted to hand off my confused thoughts about my vision for the business to the team and the fractional CMO and they tried to work their magic.

But trying to contain the scattershot blasted from a shotgun and make it cut through the target like a bullet from a rifle isn't a realistic expectation.

While I have learned this lesson, it was costly in terms of wasted time and effort, dollars, and maybe relationships.

What I have learned through having spent the last three years getting clear on what I want and becoming certified as a Buoyant Way Coach is that you can't take shortcuts.

You must get clear on your goals, or your business will mirror your scattershot approach.

This will show up as limited growth because your message and your team and your clients are not all in alignment.

In month two of our Cash Accelerator Program, we work on your mission, values, and goals, for this reason.

You get financial clarity in month 1, directional clarity in month 2, and then we hammer out your growth plan for the next 120 days in month 3.

When you complete the program, you'll have a road map and the confidence to execute and make progress towards your goals.

If you want to step into the land of personal and business alignment, then hit reply and let's talk about why you’re bouncing around like a washing machine with its unbalanced load.

And be sure to schedule a time to chat about how the Accelerator can help you. Slots for March are filling fast!
