Family Visits and Conversations
The last few months of 2024 resulted in a lot of family visits and conversations. I am grateful so many of my relatives still get together with the family.
While I was back in North Carolina for the holiday season, I was reminded of the motive for the state, which is “Esse Quam Videri” or “To be, rather than to seem.”
Some of the stories I heard about relatives long passed away made me realize that much of what I experienced as a child was sugar coated for my benefit.
I know this was for my protection or even because of my limited ability to understand as a child.
It's left me questioning as an adult; “What was true versus what seemed to be?”
This lesson carries over into business as well.
Getting to our truth as business owners is vitally important.
To know what we want to achieve, our purpose, our why, is often overlooked for expediency; action for the sake of action or just to “get **** done”.
I am a woman of action. My Myers Briggs type, ESTJ, has that J trait of being uncomfortable until a decision is made.
My Kolbe A is a high Quickstart. Yet after years of coaching for my business and myself, I realize that working to clear a path in the wrong jungle is pointless.
I hope you aren't affected too badly by the tariff and trade decisions going on right now, and that you have a plan.
With some things up in the air, it's a good time to take stock and reconnect with your personal and business “Why”s.
Spend a few mornings journaling and getting clear on what you want to achieve long term and in this year.
Set 1 to 3 goals for the year and make sure they're meaningful to you, that they will bring you joy.
These goals will be your filter to help you decide on how to deploy your financial resources to tackle these goals.
Alignment is hugely important to me and learning more family secrets has really driven this point home lately.
Let’s all “Be” this year. There is too much “seeming” in the world already.
