Business is Hard

I've seen in my social media feed this concept that business can be made simple.

Donald Miller who provides great advice for business owners even has a book, podcast, and online platform titled Business Made Simple.

Another colleague in the ecommerce accounting space closes every Facebook post with his mission to make entrepreneurship simple for millions. 

I love the idea that these great minds are wanting to make things simple for entrepreneurs. I do too, which is why I started Your Profit Team.

But here's the thing, business is HARD!

Even if we can improve one area and make that thing simple, there are 4999 other reasons it is hard. 

And to be honest, that is where the journey is for each of us: 

 - figuring out how to do hard things,  

- learning to trust in ourselves that we can do hard things 

- building the courage to look within ourselves to find the answers 

This is where we get the confidence, and a little ease too. 

As an ecommerce accountant and a life coach, I see it over and over.

People investing in programs, coaches, and courses to get all the answers. They want a shortcut to growth.  

Recently one of my coaching clients asked my opinion about investing a large sum in Amazon coach and also giving this coach 8% of monthly revenue.

We had spent months coaching him back to profitability, and one call with this expert had him ready to give up eight percent of his top line and pay a hefty monthly fee.  

We dove into what some of the other options might be because with Amazon, the rules are constantly changing.

Entire classes of sellers can be crippled by a change to the terms of service, the introduction of a knockoff competitor, or tariffs applied to your foreign manufacturer.

For months I've been hearing from ecom clients that they are doubling up on orders to get inventory before tariffs are imposed.  

This is hard stuff!! It's never going to be simple.

The two things that you can absolutely bank on are: 

  1. that it's going to be hard, and  

  1. you can't have too much cash in the bank 

on top of the already well-known certain promise of death and taxes. 

So, let's look at why hard is good, because I actually think it is! 

Hard weeds out the ones just wanting to get rich quick. 

Hard rewards those resilient souls willing to show up every day trying to figure out a way, maybe a better way, to serve their WHY and their families.

Hard tests us and makes us aware of what we are made of, teaches us to trust in ourselves. Hard is reliable.

You can count on the fact that when you see a little blue sky and start to think “I've got this” that a storm cloud is forming in the West.

So, take that deep breath, enjoy the sunshine, and get grounded in your core values and missions. They're about to be tested.
