Mount Jefferson

Simplify

October 31, 20252 min read

As a part of my daily journaling, I use prompts from Yanick Silver’s, The Cosmic Journey Oracle.

Today, my Cosmic card directed me to pull my favorite book and look for a message on page 25.

So many favorite books, but I chose Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh.

There was a message I needed to see: simplify.

I have just returned to Arkansas from the North Carolina mountains.

In the mountains we exist with just a suitcase full of clothes.

My art supplies fit in a small bag.

I don’t have any of my favorite things that exist on my bookcase or in my cabinets at home in Arkansas.

Mind you, we aren't roughing it.

It is a fully functioning house.

It's just not loaded down with our stuff.

And I do feel lighter there.

There aren't the same distractions or heaviness of things that I need to do.

The deer keep gardening to a minimum.

The view of Mount Jefferson requires my attention so porch sitting is a favorite pastime.

Now that I am unpacked from our time away, I feel the weight of the stuff.

I want to paint but I must clear the table from all the books I acquired over the summer along with the papers I saved from our trips that will become a collage one day.

My clothes closet feels bloated. Choosing from three pairs of pants and five shirts all summer made it simple.

I look in my closet today and think when will I ever wear all of these clothes?

I do cull things regularly- every season change.

And it's time to do it again.

And to be ruthless, I must channel Marie Kondo this time.

That's my project this week. First my office, then my closet.

What comes next? I'm thinking there's a message here for work, too.

Have our offerings gotten too complex?

Are we having too many meetings?

It’s time to do a scan of OpEx.

What can I cut?
